The Pomodoro Technique in three simple steps.
Select “Pomodoro” for a 25-minute deep focus session, “Short Break” for a 5-minute rest between sessions, or “Long Break” for a 15-minute recovery after completing 4 full cycles.
Click Start, then work on a single task until the timer rings. Eliminate all distractions. When the chime sounds, your Pomodoro is complete. The cycle counter tracks your progress through the set of four.
Switch to Short Break and rest for 5 minutes — step away from the screen. After 4 Pomodoros, take a Long Break. Then reset the cycle counter and start a new set of four sessions.
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) separated by short breaks (5 minutes). After four consecutive Pomodoros, a longer break of 15–30 minutes is taken to restore mental energy.
The technique leverages the brain’s natural ultradian rhythm — approximately 90-minute cycles of high and low mental focus. By committing to short, fixed intervals, it reduces the psychological resistance to starting difficult tasks and makes procrastination harder to justify. Regular breaks prevent cognitive fatigue and maintain sustained productivity throughout the day.
